The Focus of the Democratic Party.

We should focus on democracy, giving the working person an even break and not falling victim to the divide and conquer strategy.

Keeping our democracy, making our democracy stronger and getting rid of corruption should be a major campaign issue. With AI, democracy and doing away with corruption is even more important.

We need to stand up for the working person. We have had over a hundred years of work income subsidizing investment income. Long term capital gains tax rates are taxed much lower than regular income tax rates and capital gains are not taxed for Social Security or Medicare like regular income is. What would our economy look like today if the last hundred years we had a level playing field between labor and ownership? Hard to say, but the disparity between the very wealthy and the average working person would likely be very much less. Probably there would be more business owners and less money going into the stock market.

Republicans have used the government to squeeze the worker to have cheap labor, sending a bigger percentage of the overall wealth to the top. We should support the working person. Maybe gradually implementing something like this would work: Tax lower regular income levels the same rate as the lower capital gains levels, tax higher capital gain levels the same rate as the higher regular income levels. Tax both incomes for Social Security and Medicare for incomes between (say for an example $20,000) and the cap, rebating money paid for first 20,000. Reapply the tax when total income reaches ultra high levels, using this to replace the rebated money and strengthen the programs.

How does a party that favors a small percentage of the people and disfavors the masses win elections? One way is to own and influence most of the media. Another way is to keep dividing the other party and keep taking off chunks. Some of the arguments Republicans make are that Democrats: want to take away your guns, are for abortions, are for communism, are for open borders, are for trans people playing in women’s sports and so on and so on. They find an issue that strikes a cord with people, amplify it and vilify Democrats. We should try to correct disinformation.

We also need to be a big tent party and welcome different views within our party, while concentrating on our strength on issues such as saving democracy, saving Social Security and Medicare and supporting the working person and the small business person. The national Democratic platform should reflect a big tent party and allow Democratic candidates to run on the issues they want to run on and win on in their area. If we win, it’s a win for democracy.
