WHAT IS THE CASSANDRA SYNDROME?
In Greek mythology, Cassandra was given the gift of prophecy but cursed so that no one would believe her warnings.
Today, many Americans see problems in our election system, yet meaningful solutions are often ignored.
The Cassandra Syndrome asks a simple question:
What happens when citizens lose faith in elections because they cannot independently verify the results?
THE PROBLEM
Our election systems already create two records that can be used to independently verify election outcomes:
• Ballot Images
• Cast Vote Records (CVRs)
These records are created during the counting process, yet in many places citizens are denied access to use them for public verification.
Voting is secret.
Counting should be public.
Trust is important.
Verification is better.
THE SOLUTION
For more than 20 years, election transparency advocates have been developing a practical solution:
ABE (Auditable Ballot Examination)
ABE allows citizens, election officials, candidates, and political parties to compare anonymous ballot images with Cast Vote Records and verify election outcomes independently.
No conspiracy theories.
No accusations.
No black boxes.
Just verification.
