On yesterday’s program Thom made a comment to a caller I’d like to take issue with. The caller asked about car travel vs air travel in relation to climate impact. Thom’s response was that air travel had a much lower per capita carbon intensity than driving. There has been a lot of very good work done on this issue and Barry Saxifrage with Canada’s National Observer online newspaper has produced a series of remarkable graphics to illustrate the relative climate impact of all forms of travel. Here’s a link to his transportation-related graphics: https://www.saxifrages.org/eco/go1s/Transportation. Bottom line: air travel has a very high and growing negative impact on the climate relative to other modes of transportation including cars. Terry (tmoore7031@gmail.com).
